My condolences to the family. Mr. Caughran was my band director at SHS from 1956-1960. He was a positive influence on my life during those critical teenage years. Partially through that influence, I eventually earned bachelores degree in music and served as a church music minister for a number of years. Jesse Wilson SHS class of 1960.
- Jesse M. Wilson, Candler, NC
Dear Mrs. Caughran, I was so sorry to hear of the death of Mr. Caughran. I have thought about him so many times over the years while remembering all the good times I had in the SHS band. He was an inspiration to us all, a great leader, a superb disciplinarian, and because of him, we had the best band in Savannah. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Becky Holloway Prosser

Mrs. Caughran and family. Thank you for sharing Ed with us for so many years. I cannot begin to express to you what an impact 'Mr. C' made upon many, many BlueJackets over the years. He imparted discipline when we needed it the most, he inspired musicianship and performance as we learned to enjoy and appreciate the many facets of fine arts. He demanded teamwork, effort, and practice...qualities and atributes necessary in all endeavors in life. May God comfort you in your sorrow and be with you in your days to come. To his family, please know a giant has left us who made an indelible impact on each of our lives. Thank you again for sharing him with us for so many years. In mournful respect, Rick Dudley SHS '66 - '71

Dear Doris, I have many fond memories of sharing the office with Ed for several years when I first went to the school district's central office as Teacher on Special Assignment. Being in such close quarters over time with office mates shows you their real character, & Ed was the best! We did not have walled-in offices, so most anything anyone in the office said could be heard by all. I must say that Ed was always the gentleman, kind to all, even when he voiced disagreement. He was also very funny! I would find myself chuckling as I worked. He knew his stuff & worked hard to make the music program excellent. The Music in the Park and the All State events were just 2 of his arenas. One day we were talking & I found out that he knew my Uncle Paul back in the day-they were both musicians. I will never forget the story he told about how Paul had to hock his instruments occasionally to keep afloatbefore moving to High Point as a high school band director. God Bless you & family.
- Dotti Overstreet, Savannah, GA
Dear Doris and all the Caughran family, My sincere cndolences. Ed has been important to our whole family, from my first day of pre-school band at Savannah High in 1956 to the present. I'll never forget his interest in me and my career as a high school band director; his kindness to my sisters particularly Sandra and Carol and to our parents, Charles and Grace. Ed will be missed as one of Savannah's finest musicians, but even more so as one of Savannah's finest human beings.

I was in the Statesboro High School band when Mr. Caughran came to be our band director in the mid-50s. I enjoyed being one of his students and liked his sense of humor. I lived on W. Condolences to the family. Mary H. Phillips
